The Sword & Shield:

A 40-Day Devotional Journey for Men

The Sword & Shield 40-Day Devotional Journey for Men is a 40-day journey designed to encourage, inspire, and challenge men to be leaders for Christ in their families, workplaces, and circles of influence.

From biblical to medieval times, the sword was an offensive weapon and the shield, a defensive weapon. In the dominant hand of the warrior, the sword was used to advance; in the lesser hand, the shield defended against attacks. As modern metaphors, the sword represents spiritual growth transformation of men into the image of Christ and the shield, moral protection intentional actions to stop the enemy. As examples, a sword is commitment to daily prayer, while a shield is accountability to strengthen areas of weakness.

The Sword & Shield will:

  • Offer relevant, transferable principles of spiritual growth to men.
  • Develop a daily time spent with God to form an on-going habit past the forty days.

for Men

About Robert Noland

Praise for The Sword & Shield

“In a day when so many men seem to have lost their identity, these devotional thoughts Robert has penned challenge guys to grow and become the leaders that our Heavenly Father intended. Through closeness with Christ, men can learn who they truly are and are then able to offer a godly expression to a searching world.” —Mark Westerfield, Senior Pastor of Central Baptist, Round Rock, TX and Leader of the Men’s Gathering, a community-wide weekly Bible study for men in Austin

"As a Christian men’s leader I am constantly looking for relevant material written for real men facing real problems. Robert’s work never disappoints. He is serious about helping guys get closer to God and knows how to accomplish that. His dedication to sharing real truth with men about their walk with God has changed the way I do Men’s Ministry and I have little doubt this devotional will bring change in your life as well!” — Drew Oakley, Associate Pastor and Men’s Ministry Leader, Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park, KY

Robert has a way of analogizing spiritual topics that all men face to real world interests that we can relate to. In doing this, he makes Scripture come alive to help develop a deeper understanding of what God is trying to teach us. Robert truly writes to men, leading us to go deeper than just checking off a five-minute “time with God.” The interactive nature of The Sword & Shield makes this devotional book like few others out there for men. — Brad Young, President, Real Dads Support Association, Ontario, Canada
